French Cuisine

Comments (7)

Indisputably, one of modern France s greatest treasures is its rich cuisine. The French have an ongoing love affair with food. The cuisine of France is remarkably varied with a great many regional differences based on the produce and gastronomy of each region. Culinary traditions that have been developed and perfected over the centuries have made French cooking a highly refined art. This is true of even the simplest peasant dishes, which require careful preparation and great attention to detail. It is expected that even the simplest preparation be undertaken in the most careful manner, which means disregarding the amount of time involved. Of course, the secret to success in a French kitchen is not so much elaborate techniques as the use of fresh ingredients that are locally produced and in season. French cooking is not a monolith: it ranges from the olives and seafood of Provence to the butter and roasts of Tours, from the simple food of the bistro to the fanciful confections of the Tour d Argent. A French meal might begin with a hot hors d oeuvre or for luncheon, a...

Comments (12)

If you ve ever spent an entire day outside running around, chasing your children or taking a hike, you probably found it easy to fall asleep. Insomnia wasn t nagging at you after you d exhausted your body through physical activity. For some people though that rule doesn t apply to them. Intense physical activity while working the muscles and getting the heartbeat up, can work as a stimulant and instead of drifting easily to sleep, a person can find themselves wide awake fighting insomnia. Keeping our bodies active is important. Not just for the obvious physical benefits but also because regular exercise can be a natural cure for insomnia. Is Binge Eating Making You Feel Alone?

Comments (3)

If you have Binge Eating Disorder, you understand the feelings of loneliness. You know what it is like to live in a secret world that no one knows about. You have a big secret, but no one is allowed to see that side of you. At restaurants with friends, you order just the right amount of food and can t finish it all because you are so full. Little do your friends know that you had already eaten enough food for three people just two hours before meeting them for another dinner. You talk to your friends about why you are overweight. You don t know why, you say. They are just as stumped as you are. They see what you eat and it is small portions. Not even unhealthy foods most of the time. But what they don t know is that you have Binge Eating Disorder. You have something that is constantly looming over your head. Food is a dream and a nightmare mixed into one. Food makes you feel better and then makes you feel worthless the very next minute. You don t want to let your friends into your secret world though. This is your world and they will not understand. They may just...

Fairy Tale Fitness

At University, many years ago, I took a class in marketing. One of the lessons of this class was about the Cinderella Theme in marketing and merchandising. Have you ever heard of it. Even if you don t know it by its technical name, I am quite sure you would recognize this method or philosophy. Guys, how many of you have wanted a car just because that particular car has the image of being a Babe Magnet . Be honest with yourself now 99 of you, right. This is how the professionals on Madison Avenue make their living. Ladies, how much make-up do you have in your make-up bag that you bought because the model looked good, the guy in the ad looked good ..only to get the cosmetic home and find it make you feel like a clown. Those folks on Madison Avenue are good I personally keep buying lipsticks that when I buy them I just know this is the magic one that will change my looks and hence my life forever - only to find I look the same with different colored lips. After many years helping fitness clients, I feel that some clients also begin a fitness program with a Cinderella...
